Whether you’re having a quiet family Christmas or a guest-packed extravaganza; Christmas needs a certain amount of organisation. With just a few days left until Christmas, it’s time to check you have everything organised and prepared… so check out my last minute top tips to ensure your festive period is a relaxed and organised one.
The key to any form or organised gathering is the list – and Christmas is no exception! Ensure you have the following lists prepared:
- Preparation, pre-cooking and cooking times
- Present lists in case labels (or presents!) go astray
- Itinerary of events, guests and programs you’d like to attend and watch
Stock Up On Labels
Ensure all the presents are labelled – handwritten, personalised and even handmade labels look great – especially when tied with curled ribbons. Labelling isn’t just for presents; check to ensure all food (before and during the festive period) is clearly labelled and dated, as this will save you time when storing or freezing leftovers.
There are always surprises in store at Christmas – and not all of them are good ones! Ensure you have a couple of spare “cover all” presents, such as sweets, luxury chocolates and biscuits, ready wrapped and ready for unexpected guests. Also look to stock up on spare batteries, candles and basic food necessities to ensure you have all your bases covered.
The last thing you want to be thinking about on Christmas day is whether your home is clean and tidy. Look to thoroughly clean the guest room, bathroom and cloakroom (including the coat and shoe storage areas) before the big day. To ensure a perfect first impression, also check the front door is clean and dressed festively.
Adding luxury around your home doesn’t have to be expensive. Look to add some luxury toiletries in your cloakroom, bedrooms and kitchen and fresh flowers (in vases or arrangements) in various rooms always add a last minute touch of class.
Finally, ensure you have enough mince pies and glasses – ready to greet your guests with warmth and festive good cheer… supplied in the form of mulled wine!
